Elizabeth's Basic Tips
- Don't follow high fashion if it doesn't suit. Instead pick elements of a look which will match your personal style.
- Do not try to emulate personalities - remember not everyone can wear wellies like Kate Moss and still look chic.
- Remember to be realistic about your size. If, like me, you are short you will never look as tall as a supermodel. Instead accentuate a different great feature: everyone has at least two great features!
- Never buy garments that are more than one size larger than your natural dress size. Alterations never work when complete resizing has to take place.
- Never buy an outfit to diet into.
- When sale shopping ask yourself if you would pay the full price, if the answer is no, put it back on the rail, have a coffee and seriously consider the garment.
- Never shop for clothes in your lunch hour.
- Spend as much as you can afford on jeans - designer jeans have a superior cut than those on the high street with better pocket placement that make the bottom look firmer.
- Don't wait for an occasion to buy an item. If you see a great dress pick it up anyway, the chances are an occasion will arise shortly where you can wear it. This saves panic buying garments for a last minute event.
- Rotate clothes - if you don't fancy wearing something, store it away in the attic and bring it out a couple of seasons later. You will feel so good when you give it a new lease of life with modern favourite.
- Have fun: it's only fashion!
